What We Measure

Core Reading & Language Domains

Phonological Awareness & Memory

Blending, segmenting, manipulation, and short-term phonological memory that supports decoding.

Rapid Naming

Speed/automaticity of retrieving labels for letters, digits, colors, and objects—often related to fluency.

Decoding & Word Reading

Accuracy and efficiency reading real words and pseudowords to examine phonics and orthographic patterns.

Reading Fluency & Comprehension

Oral or silent reading efficiency and understanding at sentence and short-passage levels.

Spelling & Written Expression

Encoding of sound-symbol relationships and sentence-level writing accuracy.

Language Screener

Brief receptive/expressive checks to contextualize reading performance and inform instruction.

Background & Rating Scales

Context that Strengthens the Results

BASC-3 Structured Developmental History (SDH)

Caregiver interview covering developmental, medical, educational, and social history to contextualize current reading and learning needs. Completed remotely via our secure, HIPAA-compliant system or pre-call form.

Teacher Input & Reports

We request a brief teacher report on classroom reading, spelling, and written expression. We can also send a secure digital form for easy completion.

Student Interview

Short, student-friendly conversation about reading strengths, challenges, interests, and goals. Helps align recommendations with the student’s voice.

Grade/School Work Review

Optional review of recent work samples (e.g., writing, spelling tests, reading assignments) to connect assessment data with classroom performance.

Dyslexia Rating/Screener (Optional)

Shaywitz DyslexiaScreen (teacher/parent rating, grade-appropriate forms) to flag risk indicators. We may also include the research-based Colorado Learning Difficulties Questionnaire (CLDQ) reading scale. Screeners inform risk—they are not diagnostic.
